Version 2.0 — 14 March 2006:
- Redesigned Preferences Window, separating Application Preferences, Screen Corner Display Preferences, and (on Mac OS X) Mac OS X Preferences.
- Implemented more intuitive interface for specifying UTC or Time Zone for screen corner and dock icon time displays.
- Time zones may now display AM/PM or 24-hour time.
- Added Application Preference to Use Periods to Designate Date Difference. When enabled, time displays will substitute a period (“.”) for a colon (“:”) when the displayed time’s date differs from the system date.
- Up to 12 screen corner displays may now be implemented. Multiple displays in the same screen corner automatically tile horizontally. To configure an individual screen corner display, click the “Screen Corner Displays” tab in the UTC Display Preferences Window, select the desired display in the “Select Display to Configure” pop-up menu, click to select “Show this Display,” and set the desired preferences.
- Time Display Prefix added. This allows entering up to three characters which precede the time in the screen corner display, allowing for easy identification of the time zone to which a given screen corner display applies.
- Vertical adjust control for screen corner displays now honors adjustments in excess of +10 and -10 pixels.
- Added Preference to display hours with leading zero.
- Added horizontal adjust for screen corner displays.
- Added “Copy Attributes” and “Apply Attributes” buttons to the Screen Corner Displays tab of the Preferences Window. These buttons allow you to copy all of the settings from one screen corner display, and apply them to another screen corner display.
- Added “Add Another Instance of UTC Display” to the “File” menu. This allows you to run multiple copies of UTC Display, which maintain independent preference files. This enables multiple Dock icon displays. Multiple instances added this way may be launched by opening the “master” copy of UTC Display. Additional instances tile their screen corner displays vertically above or below any previous instances’ screen corner displays.
- Added Preference “Low Power Mode (Less CPU Usage)” that, when enabled, disables displaying the time with seconds. This reduces average Mac OS X UTC Display processor time from around 6–10% to about 0.5–0.7%, and even lower when dock icon is hidden. This is primarily beneficial to those using UTC Display on portable computers, where CPU usage might consume unnecessary battery power. Note that UTC Display’s design always yields processor time to other processes that need the CPU, and so does not impose a performance penalty in either mode.
- Mac OS X:
- Added “Leading Zero for Hour” control for Dock Icon display.
- Dock Icon Display parameters may now be configured independently of screen corner display settings.
- Dock time display now supports a Time Display Prefix, as described above.
- UTCD Dock Icon Utility has been updated to support the newer Mac OS method for Dock icon visibility targeting.
- Build Number now displays in Finder Info and Explorer Properties Windows.
- UTC Display now attempts to check for an active Internet connection before performing a background update check, if set to automatically check for updates.
- Internet Update Window:
- Cancelling a download now deletes the partially-downloaded file.
- Contextual menu is now accessible when the click point is the update text field.
- Download file is now saved as a temporary file, then copied to its destination at the completion of the download. This forces all operating systems to immediately display the correct file icon, and works better when downloading to a directory that is set to automatically expand its contents.
- Downloaded files are set to read/write permissions for the ‘owner’ and ‘group’ on operating systems that support this.
- Now offers the option to decompress the file after downloading.
- Preferences Window: Toggling the “Display Time with Seconds” now updates the screen corner display more quickly.
- Automatic checking for Internet Updates (if enabled) now only occurs when the hour has changed and UTC Display has been running for more than 60 seconds.
- Attempting to auto-quit ([option] + [shift] + click in screen corner display) with Preferences Window open now saves preferences and quits.
- Fixed bug where setting system clock ahead, then back, could suspend time updates.
