Version 2.1 — Released 29 January 2007:
Changes for All Platforms
Macintosh-Specific Changes (for all Macs | when you Try or Register DarkAdapted Pro)
Windows-Specific Changes
- Changes for All Platforms:
- Updated documentation.
- Control Window’s Presets: pop-up now reacts dynamically to the state of the gamma sliders. So, for example, if you move the sliders so that all are at 100%, the Presets: pop-up menu will read “Full Brightness” as soon as all three sliders reach 100%.
- Most windows now retain their former positions on screen when re-opened.
- Changed Ganged Mode behavior so that sliders do not shorten in this mode. Instead, sliders stop moving when they reach the end of their travel (0% or 100%). Therefore, sliders’ values relative to one another can change if one slider reaches the end of its travel, while another slider continues to be moved. To always preserve relative values, check the Maintain Relative Values control (see below).
- Added Maintain Relative Values control to Control Window. This control only appears while in Ganged Mode. When checked, sliders always remember their intensity relative to other sliders, even if one slider has previously reached the end of its travel.
- Sliders may now be moved independently in Ganged Mode by holding down the SHIFT or OPTION/ALT key while changing the slider.
- Added Check for Updates Now... button to the Preferences window.
- Improved handling of presets for faster operation.
- Adding a new preset now always offers a unique preset name, instead of always defaulting to “New Preset.”
- Control Window’s Gang Sliders control is no longer disabled if one slider is at its maximum, and the other is at its minimum.
- Gamma Toggle Keys display in Control Window updates to reflect the fact that Gamma Toggle Keys are disabled, when a window is open that allows defining hotkeys.
- Preferences file format changed, to improve launch speed. DarkAdapted will automatically import preferences from earlier versions, and will leave the existing preferences file intact for use by earlier versions. Your older versions of DarkAdapted will use the old preferences file, while newer versions will use the new preferences file.
- Main Windows have been renamed to Control Windows.
- Added DarkAdapted Web Site... to Special menu. This command opens the DarkAdapted main web page in your default web browser, if you are connected to the Internet.
- Added Send E-mail... to Special menu. This command creates a new, pre-addressed e-mail message in your default e-mail client, containing the build number of DarkAdapted in its subject line.
- Added DarkAdapted User Guide... to Special menu. This command opens the DarkAdapted .pdf User Guide, provided it is located in the same directory as DarkAdapted, or in a subfolder named “Documentation.”
- Added DarkAdapted Read Me File... to Special menu. This command opens the DarkAdapted .pdf Read Me file, provided it is located in the same directory as DarkAdapted, or in a subfolder named “Documentation.”
- Added License Agreement... to Special menu. This command opens the DarkAdapted .pdf License Agreement, provided it is located in the same directory as DarkAdapted, or in a subfolder named “Documentation.”
- Changed URL in Control Window to www.darkadapted.com.
- Added clickable DarkAdapted URL in About Window.
- Updated help tags.
- The License Agreement window appears the first time you open a new version of DarkAdapted. If you open an earlier version, quit that earlier version, then open the newer version of DarkAdapted, the License Agreement window again displays.
- Macintosh-specific Changes:
- Added menu item Try DarkAdapted Pro... to the Special menu. When DarkAdapted has not been upgraded to DarkAdapted Pro, you may select this menu item to try out DarkAdapted Pro’s advanced features for 10 minutes at a time. You may select this item as many times as you desire, but a registration reminder will appear at the end of every 10 minutes.
- Added Try DarkAdapted Pro... button to Registration Window.
- AppleScript: Changed Applescript command DisplayMainWindow to DisplayControlWindow.
- Changed hotkey assignment method in Gamma Toggle Keys and Set Hotkeys Windows. Now, any key may be used, and one no longer needs to set checkboxes to represent the modifier keys.
- Registration Window now offers PayPal as a payment option.
Changes when you Try DarkAdapted Pro or Register DarkAdapted Pro:
- Added Edit Brightness Hotkeys... to the system-wide menu. Two hotkeys may be defined to change the brightness level up or down respectively.
- System-wide Menu added. The system-wide menu allows control over most of DarkAdapted’s functions, from any application, from right side of the menu bar. It also features Brightness and RGB Slider commands. System-wide hotkeys may be assigned to any menu entry.
- Ability to hide the Mac OS X Dock Icon added. Control its visibility via the DarkAdapted Pro Options: region of the Preferences Window.
- Added preferences to start DarkAdapted at login, for the current user or for all users.
- Added preference to share DarkAdapted’s preferences file among all users.
- Gamma Toggle Keys may now be set to control all displays; not just the frontmost display. Do so via the Preferences Window’s Define Keys button, then adjust Apply to all displays as desired. When enabled, screens are synchronized so that they are all set to Full Brightness or all set to a custom gamma setting each time the Gamma Toggle Keys are pressed.
- If Control Windows are closed, SHIFT-clicking the DarkAdapted Dock icon now opens them.
- AppleScript: Added independentDisplayControl command, followed by true or false to change the state of Independent Display Control. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- AppleScript: Added maintainRelativeValues command, followed by "true" or "false" to change the state of Control Window’s "Maintain Relative Values" control. Enters Ganged Sliders mode if necessary. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- AppleScript: Added gammaToggleKeysAllDisplays command, followed by true or false to control whether or not the gamma toggle keys affect all displays, or only the display with the frontmost Control Window. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- AppleScript: Added hideSystemWideMenu command, followed by with hotkeysEnabled or without hotkeysEnabled. Hides the system-wide menu, either with hotkeys enabled or without hotkeys enabled. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- AppleScript: Added showSystemWideMenu command. Shows the system-wide menu and enables its hotkeys. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- AppleScript: Added "showSystemWideMenu" command. Shows the system-wide menu and enables its hotkeys. Ignored in DarkAdapted Standard.
- Fixed bug where setting a machine’s Location (Edit Event window) would fail if the decimal separator was not a “.” (period). Also changed sunrise/sunset code to not fail if it encounters an illegal longitude/latitude value.
- Windows-specific Changes:
- Fixed disposing of Gamma Toggle Keys at quit, which prevented several cleanup tasks from executing.
